Launching on ProductHunt sounded simple. Create a profile, drop the link, get users.

But in reality, it rarely works. Why?

1️⃣ No organic pull – Telling people, β€œGo find a product you like on ProductHunt” wasn’t compelling enough.

2️⃣ Low trust factor – Using the company’s page directly would come across as salesy and unconvincing.

The need was clear: I had to build trust, choose the right audience, and position ProductHunt as a solution to a real frustration.

  1. Choose UGC as the trust driver – Instead of posting from the company, I leveraged my own TikTok page. User-Generated Content (UGC) feels more authentic and earns trust faster than a faceless brand page.
  2. Select the job seekers community – My data showed job search was on the rise, and sending them there would feel like Christmas. They could discover companies fresh on the platform and reach out to them directly. They could find tools to make their job search easier and faster.

  1. Build a micro-community – I funnelled participants into a private WhatsApp group. Within hours, 200+ members filled the group that was designed as a value-first mini challenge. Instead of saying β€œgo to ProductHunt now,” I dropped a challenge that fixed their job-hunting mistakes step by step. This gave them an immediate reason to engage, without feeling sold to.
